We are designing an infrastructure and containers of programme. Each are essentially what may be considered as hardware. These pieces are difficult to change in many ways. The construction is in place. The ephemeral ratings are low. But, there is another bit to this story. The hardware runs a software. People and machines begin to stretch programme along this nervous system, or infrastructure. That software will be updated as time passes. The design is such that, as the this software is manipulated, the growth of the hardware is impacted in intelligent ways. It is not an idea of building a new thing to replace an old one. It is more of a question of planning for certain things to begin to function one way. Then, as anticipated growth occurs in the hardware, older pieces instantly adapt new uses. Death or decay are not options. Otherwise, progress will always be constrained by the dead weight it must support. <continued>
