Motion. The airplane has an aesthetic of motion. When seeing an image of an airplane (sans background), it is impossible to discern whether the object is in motion or still. The object is designed to encompass both states of inertia without changing form. Simply, the airplane looks fluid because of a necessity to be aerodynamic. This begins to imply an interruptible set of directional forces across the transverse of the airplane. My design commenced with the interpretation of these fluid flows into an armature capable of highlighting the Boeing 737. Yet, I did not want to simply mimic the obvious. Instead, I endeavored to find that point of simultaneity between disjunction and harmony. Prior to that, I should explain I am not wholly convinced this high achievement of industrial engineering needs an armature to sell it. However, I am convinced Boeing needs an armature to sell an experience. The experience must capably reference the airplane and itself. An overlap needs to be avoided. Two objects do not compete. They embrace. Still, each is an icon. The programmes are dissimilar. Each is individual. The airplane, though, is able to exist independent of the armature. The armature, on the other hand, ceases without the airplane. The design must address this notion of dependent icons. A few sentences backwards. A disturbance occurs when a line is drawn at the normal of a fluid force. A contradiction occurs when a line is drawn in the opposite direction of a fluid force. Yet, unless the directions are clearly labeled, the lines may appear to be corresponding. My design introduced two lines, with directionality initially defined by circulation, one normal and one parallel. The lines are set in flux by the fluidity of the plane. An absorption of potential force occurs, locking the object in a state of kinetic energy. Thus, the armature is able to communicate fluidity only when activated by the airplane. Dependence. Claustrophobia. The interiors of the armature are very tight. I suppose there will be a question of the validity of claustrophobia as utilized in a design to sell an airplane. My thought is levels of focus can be concentrated in planned directions though the manipulation of form. Tighter form translates to more intense focus. Focus has been put at the forefront through the smooth. No stopping points. No obvious formal directional shifts, just a consistent smooth. That smooth is only interrupted by interactions. Interaction then becomes a focal gravity. Force is thus shifted to that gravity and the smooth lubricates this directionality. A user is absorbed into a behavioral pattern of emergence. The networking of the nodal elements can then free itself from the need to separate programme formally. Collective user movement patterns will define experience. I should note, bigness may also have this effect. Bigness opens for gravity induced forces by removing the chance of obstruction and allowing infinite directionality. Design is then a tool of limitless options and limited decisions. Within the constraints of this programme, I think that technique is boring. I like tickling the experience.
